Families are the most important thing in our lives.  Take time every week to do something together. Celebrate your family! If you are interested in a post about any particular topic, attraction, or idea, leave a comment and you may see it in a future post!

Have a few great ideas for things to do together this summer that don’t cost a ton!

Visit a local museum for FREE!

Many of our wonderful museums in Chicago have FREE days each month.  (NOTE: This is usually free general admission only. Special exhibits, parking, etc. will still require a fee. )  Check out these sites for dates at your favorite one:

Check out your local minor-league sports team.

Here in the Schaumburg Area we have the Schaumburg Flyers baseball team, as well as the Kane County Cougars nearby.  Great baseball for a fraction of the price.

Find the FREE entertainment at your local library.

Our area library (Schaumburg) has free concerts in the park on Monday nights.   They also offer Movie Nights with recent releases on Wednesdays, kids’ crafting events, storytimes, and adult classes (also free or a nominal fee) in a variety of subjects. Find out what yours offers by visiting their website or checking at the main desk.

Stay in.

Rent a movie or check one out from the library, make a homemade pizza or pop one in from the freezer, and enjoy a picnic on your living room floor. Kids love this. DH still talks about how when he was small his parents would let him and his sister camp out in the living room on Friday nights and stay up as late as they wanted, watching TV.  Make a memory with your children!

Discover your local parks.

Not just green areas, but many park districts have concerts, activities, classes and more to offer.  Here are some of what’s coming up at my local (Hoffman Estates) park district: Fishing derby, free outdoor movie nights, free summer concerts, Bike riding club, boat races, dance classes and more!  Some have nominal fees, but most are free! And there are also the walking/biking/running trails that run throughout the parks. Get out and have fun!

I’m sure I could think of more, but my family is calling!

A few items of note I wanted to pass on quickly!

40% off Bibles for Dads over at Family Christian.

Headed to SeaWorld?? $5 Child ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket. (Thanks, BargainBriana!)

Have a great Family Day!
