New to Couponing? Read this page first.

There are several basic questions you should find out the answers to to help you get the most for your money when shopping at any store.

Step 1: Do they have a frequent shopper card?

Step 2: Do they participate in any catalina programs?

Step 3: Do they have an official coupon policy?

No. As with other stores, their policy can vary by location.  At our local Whole Foods (Schaumburg IL), they:

  • accept manufacturer coupons
  • allow 1 store coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon per item, unless one of the coupons prohibits it.
  • Offer store coupons through their website.
  • Do not accept expired coupons

Step 4: Do they offer an organic store brand?

While Whole Foods carries only organic products, they do have an organic store brand: 365.

Step 5: What is their weekly ad cycle?

The Whole Foods weekly ad is valid Wednesday-Tuesday.

Step 6: Do they have internal publications that offer savings?

Every season pick up a copy of the Whole Deal.

This is a publication put out quarterly by Whole Foods Market. It includes articles, recipes, and most importantly, coupons!  These are STORE coupons and can be paired with manufacturer coupons, unless the fine print prohibits it. It is located next to the Customer Service desk (there are also other publications there you might find interesting as well! All free!)

And don’t forget to Go to the Whole Foods Market website and print more coupons. Again, these are also STORE coupons that can be paired with manufacturer coupons for more savings. The website also offers ideas for budget-friendly recipes, and more.

Step 7: Anything else I need to know?

Don’t forget to take your own bags. Whole Foods Market will give you $0.10 back or donate to the local charity of your choice for each reusable bag you bring for your transaction.

Go to Mambo Sprouts and sign up for their (snail) mailer, as well as print coupons. These are all for organic products and can be combined with coupons from the Whole Foods site or from the Whole Deal. Often you have to contact the manufacturer of organic products directly to get coupons (which I still recommend!) , but these are several all in one place!

A little bit about Whole Foods Market in general that I noticed:

Before sales, their prices are on par with organic products available elsewhere in the area (Jewel, Dominicks, Target), only differentiating $0.20-$0.30 in EITHER direction in most cases. Because they only offer organic products, their selection is definitely more varied.

Whole Foods Market does not participate in any frequent shopper card program, or any catalina program. Using these programs at other stores can bring the price of organic products down overall.
